A Granola Bar and Pack of Gum

I am so grateful for kind people. I work as a computer lab assistant on my university's campus. One day a lady came in and asked for my help with scanning and emailing some documents. I had helped her once before and she tried to give me a granola bar. I refused many times until she pleaded for me to just take it and insisted that it was for me.
She came in again today with the same request. I recognized her and because of the kindness she showed, not just by the granola bar but by her kind words and gratitude, I was excited to help her again. I helped her send the documents then promptly left her side so she could not give me another granola bar. I went back to my desk and resumed my work on my computer. Next thing I knew, a hand came into view with a pack of gum in it. I looked up to see who the hand belonged to. Sure enough it was that same sweet lady, Delfina.

I don't care about the granola bar or gum. That's not what made me so happy. It's what giving those things to me MEANT and Delfina's kindness that made me happy. We all express gratitude in different ways. I was touched by Delfina's expression of gratitude (in this case the granola bar and gum) and her insistence on sacrificing and giving those things to me to show that she was grateful.

Now I know this is a stretch, but bear with me.

Just as Delfina sacrificed those things for me to show her gratitude, we can show our gratitude to our savior and heavenly father by the sacrifices we make. It doesn't have to be big. By doing things like choosing not to watch that T.V. show that may be a little inappropriate, choosing to serve your roommates by sweeping the floor or doing the dishes, or spending a half an hour of your time reading your scriptures, you are showing to your Heavenly Father that you care about him, you care about what he thinks and says, and that you care about what he thinks of you.
